The terms that apply when you order catering or meals from us.

These terms apply when you place an order with Southern Kai, whether for catering or our Community Kai Meals. By placing an order you agree to the terms set out below.
Ordering & Pricing
All prices are in New Zealand dollars and include GST. Catering is priced per head and shown upfront before you order. Minimum order amounts apply to both catering and meals - meals have a minimum of 5 per order. We’ll always confirm your order details before it’s prepared.
Payment
Payment is made online through our secure payment provider, Stripe. For catering, paying online secures your date. You can choose to pay a 50% deposit, with the balance automatically charged 2 days before your event. Approved corporate and government accounts may instead arrange to be invoiced.
Cancellations
For catering, you can cancel free of charge up to 48 hours before your event. If you cancel within 48 hours, your deposit may be retained to cover ingredients and preparation already underway. Please get in touch as early as you can if your plans change.
Delivery
We deliver across Southland. Delivery fees and timing depend on your area and are shown at checkout. Because our food is perishable, someone must be available to receive the delivery at the agreed time and place. We can’t take responsibility for food left unattended where no one is available to receive it.
Meals
Community Kai Meals have a minimum order of 5 and are cooked fresh, snap-frozen and delivered frozen. Once your meals are delivered, food safety and correct storage are your responsibility - please keep them frozen and follow the heating and storage guidance on the packaging. Weekly subscriptions can be paused or cancelled at any time.
Allergens & Dietary Requirements
We’re happy to cater to dietary requirements where we can - just let us know when you order. Please note that our food is prepared in a shared kitchen, so while we take care, we cannot guarantee any meal is completely free of a particular allergen. If you have a serious allergy, please contact us to discuss before ordering.
Liability
We take great care in preparing and delivering your order. To the extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the value of the order concerned. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or other applicable New Zealand law.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and any disputes will be dealt with by the New Zealand courts.
